I need some help in deciphering the VIN to the 78 I bought a few months back. I have looked at all the ones online, but it doesn't come up. Maybe it's an alien Vette.
That's not a factory VIN. That is a state assigned VIN. That means the car has a history somewhere, maybe stolen, maybe salvage, maybe something else in it's past.

Well...that explains why I can't find anything.
Thanks for the info. Now to get it tagged in Texas with that VIN. Yikes!

That should not be a problem. Whomever jumped through the hoops to get the car tagged in Wisconsin has already done all the hard work. Over the years I have built a couple hot rods and dune buggies that required obtaining state issued VIN tags and it was never a problem. The guys that issued the state VIN tags are very knowledgeable and easy to work with, at least in my state.

I would assume that the REC in the beginning of the VIN# means it is a Reconstructed title vehicle, or R Title. Might hurt the value as an investment, but as a daily driver, no problem.

Yeah...I have already spoken to the lady at the DMV and she emailed me the forms needed, but I haven't said anything about the VIN yet. Just going to be a daily driver...maybe some pep in the future.

As far as the pillar...I don't know. The switch?
Thanks.
The vin# from the factory would be on the driver's side windshield pillar, about 1/3 of the way up from the cowl. Is there anything there?
Is the vehicle certification label still on the driver's door?
Sorry, I had a case of dummy going on. The tag on the pillar only has the trim paint code and thew label on the door has a new label that states the vehicle has been altered and meets all safety requirements, but no other VIN.
