Default Do I need a resistor?

Hi, I am working on my 69 Vette with a L46 motor. All the wiring diagrams I have seen don't show a resistor. Mine has one on there. Is it supposed to? Someone had electronic ignition on it at one time and I am going back to points, I don't know if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help.

You should have a dual wire set up on the + positive side of the coil. One of those two wires is a resistance wire. Test with a voltmeter to make sure they still are live.

Thanks for the help. The two wires you are talking about (looks like a red one and a white one) are connected to one side of the resistor. Then a black one comes off the other side of the resistor and goes to the coil. What happens if the wires are the resistance type wire and they also go into a resistor? Does that just cut way down on your fire?
