I have a 79 with a bad antenna. I could use some help. The mast cable was broken, so I got a replacement mast. I put it all together, and hooked it up and it didn't run.
So, I tested the wiring coming from the replay, and it appears to be working correctly.
Then, I opening the antenna up and tried to bench test it. The motor would not run until I manually closed the appropriate electrical points inside the antenna. Then it ran fine.
Does anyone know what is supposed to actuate the points for this antenna. It appears that unless the appropriate set of points are closed, the antenna won't run. However, on my antenna, none of the points are closed when it is just sitting there, so the motor doesn't run.
Anyone?
I really hate to spend $180 for a new antenna when the old antenna motor runs. Does anyone know how these work?
Thanks.
Is the part with the teeth on the new antenna the same size as the original? Did you open it up and see if there are any broken pieces of nylon in there?
