Default Transporting a non-op vette

Hi All,
I know there are a lot of threads regarding transporting vehicles, I think I've looked at most of them.
My question is a little more specific though.
The car I need to transport is located in a hilly rural area with narrow, curvy roads. And to add to that, the car has been sitting for close to 40 years and is non-op. It does roll and steer, but not sure about brakes...
Does anybody have any experience hiring a transport company for a job like this? Recommendations or companies to stay away from? I don't have a vehicle or trailer capable of transporting a car myself, and I think the cost of renting a truck and trailer, plus driving the 900+ miles would be cost prohibitive...
I appreciate you taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Have a flat-bed wrecker haul it to an area where it can be loaded onto your trailer. If the driver is experienced, he may be able to line his bed up to your trailer and roll it on for you. I'd say a $50 tip at least!

900+ miles? That's an easy $2K (or close to it) charge from most if not all enclosed transport trucking companies. Most probable that getting a friend/relative who has a pickup with hitch, renting a vehicle trailer and making the drive yourselves would be a savings versus the other method. Cannot say that the savings would be huge but it might be significant ... like about $500 to $600.

I faced somewhat the same situation....a 1700 mile round trip. After looking into the options and seeing the cost, I determined to just go pick mine up myself. But I did have my own truck and trailer to use so it made much more sense than hiring someone. I ended up posting an add on CL and hauled a vehicle on my way down to get mine so I ended up making a few bucks on the trip. You could consider doing the same thing if you were to rent a vehicle to go get yours. Actually since then I did the same for a friend of mine who purchased a vette too. Anyway....good luck with the purchase.

If people new where the car was and where you are they might be able to give more informed advice and or help.

The car is currently in Ohio, and I'm in Wisconsin. It's about 450 miles one way...
