Default Driver side door wires

Hi all,

Got my car back from being painted, and as i am putting the door handles and locks on, i noticed two wires taped up in the driver side door, near the outside handle. Anyone know what they are for? I don’t think the car ever had an alarm system on it, but that was my first guess.

Thanks

What year is your car and what color are the wires?

If they look like these they might go to the courtesy light switch in the door jam. We just put these in my '68 the other day. I am in the process of replacing ALL my wiring with Lectric Limited harnesses. (Note: On my '68 the switches on the back of the door are part of the rear harness and the ones on the front door jam are part of the main harness)

The car is a 77, and the wires are white, although that may just be from the people that painted the car white. They are inside the door itself, between the outer skin and the window glass. If i can, i will post a pic later.

They're probably for the alarm.

At the beginning of 77 production, there was a key switch in the left front fender, to activate the alarm. At some point during the year (Jan/Feb????), Chevrolet incorporated the alarm switch into the driver's side door lock.

I don't have a Shop Manual or AIM nearby, at the moment, so I can't say what color the wires are, but I'd say that it's a pretty good bet that they are the wires that should go to your door lock, to control the alarm.

How would i be able to tell if the car has an alarm on it or not? when i purchased the car, the horn assembly was missing a few parts on the steering column, so i have no idea if the horn even works. Would the alarm be incorporated into the horn? is there something i could look for on the car to hint at an alarm?

It should be located inside the drivers side fender - at the back of the inner fender.

Sounds like you have a late production 77 that came with the alarm switch in the door. I believe the alarm horn is located inside the left rear quarter by the antenna.

All 77 Corvettes came standard, with a factory installed alarm system.

The alarm was pretty basic, in that all that it did was sound the horn, when someone opened a door or the horn, and the system was armed.

As others have said, the 77 alarm system used a separate dedicated horn, that was located inside the left rear quarter panel.

They are correct! My apologies for the misinformation on the horn location. Ours is located up by the antennae in the drivers side quarter panel.
