The console and door panel woodgrain trim was part of the Custom Interior option, that was first offered in 1970.
Besides the woodgrain, the Custom Interior included leather seat covers in place of the standard vinyl covers, cut-pile plush carpet in place of the base 80/20 loop, and carpet trim strips on the bottom of the door panels.
The Custom Interior remained basically unchanged as an option, from 1970 through 76. In 77, leather became standard, and the Custom Interior option was dropped.

My 70 came with a black interior and the woodgrain trim. The light brown trip in black interior parts was not very attractive. For a red interior or beige interior, it'd be very attractive....but not for a black interior.
So I have a 73 with woodgrain door panels 33,000 original miles I was told the console was changed did that originally have woodgrain?
and I can confirm no stainless on the pedals

Yes, the shift console plate should also have wood grain veneer. My custom interior '72 doesn't have it but I think it's because the veneer came loose and likely cracked so was pulled off and not replaced. The metal trim on the pedals had stopped by '72.
