Default Clogged rear deck vents

I have a 69 convertible and am getting a ton of water in the back compartment just by washing the car. There is a drain slot behind each hinge on the rear deck lid that you can see when the lid is open. If you feel inside the slot there is water standing, so obviously the drains are clogged. Does anybody have an easy way to clean these out? Thanks,

Mark

Switching back to my original thought that they drained out the back

You can try prodding the drain hole with a fine wire, or, blowing compressed air up the drain hoses from below.

Thanks, guys. I'll check in those wheel wells tonight. I thought they drained between the back wall and the fuel tank.

You might be thinking of the tube that drains the rubber tub around the fuel filler.

Do you have the assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM shows the vent drain tubes. Coupe and convertible are slightly different.

The left side on my 68 convertible was not draining. I snaked a bent coat hanger through the tube and cleared it.

IIRC, In 71 they moved the rear bulkhead towards the front several inched on the verts and those were just open to the ground. Prior to that I thought they were not the same, but at least similar to the coupe

This is the hole that I'm talking about. It doesn't drain into the same pipe as the astro ventilation vents, does it?

Here's where I'm not sure, I always thought that went back into the trough along the back wall and out the back somewhere (towards the gas tank)

Someone else told me they entered the same trough as the astro vents

Yes, I have the manual, I'll try to find it in there. Thanks

Yep, sort of. I guess it does use the same tubes. Wow, there must be 45 years of dirt in there, because I don't even get a drip through it. This is going to be fun. Thanks for the help!

In case anybody has this same problem someday, both areas do drain out the same drain. If the small holes in the trough behind the deck lid hinges are clogged, it's easiest to remove the astro ventilation stuff. Once the covers are off, you can see the drain tubes and snake them out with some wire. In the first picture, you can see the tube on the far left in the ventilation opening. Also a good idea to work on the astro stuff while you have it out. Mine were trashed. I'll have to order new seals for it, but after sandblasting, they will be ok.
