Default '79 - Total interior make over

This is a project on my to do list. Let's say I want to change the interior color completely and use all new stuff. The cosmetics only, not replacing seat frames etc. Anyone done this? and what was the budget?

I can point and click Eckler's all day and add pieces to easily get parts total over 3g....

You've got the right estimate! After I came up with a similar figure, I "lowered my standards".

Items that were in good condition received a "terrific dye-job" (new color).

Items that were well-worn (seats) received new foam and quality covers (new color).......all carpet was removed/soundproofing-heat barrier was installed/new carpet (new color) was installed....damaged door panels will be replaced (different color).

My new standards saved over $1,000 (to be "re-invested" in other car-items).

I did this last year, completely replaced almost everything, went with vinyl seat covers, instead of leather, don't regret that because I drive it everyday and vinyl is just easier to keep clean, had to replace the door panels, center t roof section, carpet, rear compartments, e brake cover, and dash pad, and made my own new console side panels for the new carpet, new mats, and one new visor. re did the rear compartments myself, instead of buying it pre built, re dyed both side halo's, and went with a dash cover instead of a new dash, did the carbon fiber look inserts on the console and dash instead of replacing those. kept my seat frames, just cleaned and re dyed, everything looks amazing you cant tell what is old and what is new, it all matched perfect, even have to look very close at the dash to see that its a cover not a new dash. the only thing I regret is not putting new foam in the seats, not because they were in bad shape, just the smell of the car sitting outside for years with leaking t tops, I cant get the smell out, next time I will swap out the foam, if I decide to re do them in leather in the future, I think I spent about 1500 in total for everything, didn't do it all at once, started at the bottom and worked my way up lol, if I would have ordered everything at once on one of Wilcox's interior specials or another vender prolly would have saved a few hundred

Thanks for help guys! I was pondering dying some of the panels that are in good shape. New foam is a must. The dash is a toss up too. But I suppose if I'm taking it out to dye then replacement but be just as easy.

That would depend on your definition of "easy". Many of the reproduction interior parts are constructed differently than the originals, and fit / installation can be tedious and challenging. But as long as you're patient and don't expect the new stuff to simply "fall in place", you should be fine.

If you are taking the time to make everything else look great....don't let a cracked/warped dash pad spoil things. If it is just sun-faded, dye it!
