Default Long Term Storage - Again

After eight years back from Germany I'm heading back overseas. Okinawa Japan this time.

Just when I got my car the way I want it and it is running like a champ, I have to put it in storage for the next three years. Looks like it will be put away in the next three weeks. Waiting to hear back from the storage company that will come and pick it up.

Everyone enjoy the rest of their summer!

That's too bad Scott, but we thank you for your service...

That's also my fear Scott!!! Waiting to wake up one morning with orders to Japan and then having to figure out what to do with 4 vehicles that we can't take with us... At least I can bring mine over to Germany...

Does the government pay to store your vehicle???

We are selling our two daily drivers and storing the vette. They pay to store but not sure how much.

Just found out about two weeks ago and I have to fly over there around the 20th of July. Taking leave on the 21st of June if I can get orders and get my house packed up.

I'll be over in your area next week. Stuttgart, Ramstein and Brussels. Then I come home and hope to have orders.

Nice looking car!

Hi! Scott. Just wanted to say good luck. Went through Okinawa on my way to Nam in 69. Take care, and sorry about the car.

Hey brother, did it for 21 years. It really sux sometimes because there never really is a "great" time to PCS. Just know that you are building your future but just have to sacrifice along the way. Look at it this way, start piling up the orders while your over there so you have some cardboard boxes full of toys when you get back. Take care of yourself my friend.

Ahhhhhhh.....the things we do for the Nation we love!

Rookie question: What are you going to do about the gasoline in the tank and carb when you store it?

BE SAFE!

Going to Stabil the fuel and drain the carb so the ethanol does as little damage as possible. I'll drain the fuel when I get back and see how things go. This is the second time I've stored it for three years. Not too many issues last time.

On a positive note, my scuba gear will get worked out a lot in the next three years.

20 years and counting. Minimum of one more move after this one, then we'll see. No need moving on to something else while they still want me around.

I was in the Air Force for 23 years and Okinawa was my best assignment. We lived on Camp Shields, and I worked on Kadena as the Resource Advisor for the Communications Squadron there. The people I worked with made the assignment what it was, and the people and culture were absolutely amazing. There is some excellent diving there...but I spent a lot of time sailing and riding motorcycles. Once we got into base housing my wife and kids loved it...when we were living downtown, not so much.

They have some monster bugs there, and you will learn to love geckos. The car will be fine, enjoy the assignment and opportunity. Thanks for your service.
