Ok, i'm not a mechanic and this is probably a stupid question, but after working on the timing the last couple of nights, the car has started sputtering/spitting, trying to run after i turn the ignition off. I think it has something to do with the timing but I would appreciate any thoughts/comments. I've done pretty much everything myself on this car, and have been trying to set the timing, but think i might drive the car to a local mechanic. Help would be appreciated.
From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.
That's a common problem (run-on) if the idle speed is set too high, or the timing is too "retarded" which requires the throttle plates to be opened excessively to provide the desired idle speed.
After I installed my ZZ4 into my 68, I had some engine running issues that I thought were related to timing. I took the car to a garage operated by an old guy who been in business for probably 40 years. My car was a classical case of an early 70's pre-smog car needing a tune-up. He didn't really charge me that much. When I drove the car away from his garage, it was a different car.....a noticeable increase in power.
For the older non computer controlled engines...breaker points, HEI distributor, you need ..sometimes.. a specialist to set the engine up for max power.

thanks...I think i will seek out a professional to perform the final tuning of the engine. I really wanted to do everything myself, but my youtube training is failing me this time
can't answering that question because I don't know what that is
The anti-dieseling solenoid holds the throttle open at the normal idle speed but closes the throttle to prevent dieseling when the ignition is turned off.
thanks for the info, but I can't find it in the AIM for my 1979....I've lived by the aim this whole project, but honestly hadn't even looked at it for this until tonight. again, thanks for the help.
