Problem is on the passenger side, hood latch has pinched the weather stripping that came loose. What is the best way to fix this? I have tried going through the rubber piece like the drivers side has but I cant see the passenger one.
This is the method I tried, if it were on the drivers side I could with a lot of effort pull this job off the problem is, myself and two others do not see this on the passengers side as its a very snug fit. Will taking the wheel off help gain access?

No the wheel is too far forward to give you any access and the fender well would also be in your way. I believe that video I posted is on the passenger side. I have a 76 so I'm not familiar with the 79, sorry.
There seems to be not enough room to find our way through the gap to the rubber stop, any other suggestions?
If I'm understanding you issue correctly and the weather stripping has gotten caught between the fender and the hood maybe you could have someone pull on the hood release (holding it all the way out - or back if that makes more sense), and have someone pull up on the hood on the passenger side. It sounds to me like it's just wedged closed with the weather strip.
We have tried that as well, we really are at a loss on how to get this off its jammed on there TIGHT! I have already pulled on the loose weather stripping and it snapped off at the latch.
Not near where I am at the moment, it's in a regular garage atm. So tools are not a problem, it's the knowledge of the different ways to go about this. I have seen where someone online took a wheel off to get to the same problem but not seeing a lot out there about that so wasn't sure just how hard it was going to be, they did say it took quite some time to do it that way.
Well, we got it. The passenger side plug is a few inches lower than the drivers side, had to put the wipers in the upright position and used a short rod to pry on the lever. Thanks!

I hope you used WD-40 on the release cable so this won't happen again!
