Hi everybody,
New to the forum and the corvette world. Recently my wife inherited a 74 coupe. A numbers matching 454 automatic.
Although we love it, economics may force us to sell, I have a fair idea of the value , but have some confusion, every thing I've
Read say this is a 270 HP motor, while the car says its a turbo jet 365 HP. On the breather decal, and placards under the shifter.
Suggestion have been a executive build, former owner swapped id's, proto type, to being an early production option. It was built in Oct. 73.
If anyone has any way of how to verify what this is or how it may effect the value it would be much appreciated. We have no documentation,
Or knowledge of any former owners.
Someone put on 1971 LS-5 stickers (454cid/365hp), less than $25.00. Post the engine number; pad on passenger side pad front of block. That will tell the tale. The suffix should be CWR (454 with automatic transmission, non-California).

The only big block available in 1974 was the 270HP LS4. You say it is a number matching car, then it has to be a 270 HP 454. Post a picture of the stamp pad in front of the right cylinder head. From that you can determine what the engine is. The stamping should be either CWR or CWS depending on emissions. The fifth digit of the VIN should be Z.
The last year of the 365 HP engine was 1971. More than likely someone changed the console plate and air cleaner decal from a 1971 or earlier car.
Agreeing with the two previous posters. There isn't supposed to be a decal on the air cleaner lid, and the console trim plate sticker can easily be changed.
The last digits of the vin should also appear on the pad in front of the passenger side head, as well as the aforementioned suffix numbers.
More than likely it is an original LS4 car, which is a pretty decent find as they are fairly rare...however as I like to put it, "Its the rarest corvette I'll ever be able to afford"...They are worth more than any other non convertible, non pace car rubber bumper Corvette for sure, but won't fetch the same dollars as an equal condition BBC equipped 68-72 car.

1974 production began in August '73 so this is not an early car. Federal regulations would have prevented any one-off 'special'-engined cars no matter who wanted one.
Hopefully somebody just played games with stickers and left the original engine alone. When you say 'numbers matching', have you verified any of these numbers?
Thanks for the input, my first thought also was someone swapped the shifter plate
and breather cover. Just can't imagine why.wanted to post som pics but having no luck with photo bucket. The block # is t1015cwr and match the vin, but that's the only # I personally have verified. I was told it was numbers matching, but thanks again all for the input.
