1980 vette streeting wheel problem!! Help!!!!!!!
so I took it to my mechanic and he told the part in the picture below needs to be replace because it has gap.
I'm not a mechanic and i dont much about it. I would really appreciate it if you could help me.
I need your help to identify what is this part? and where could i get from online? Is this really the part causing the problem?
However, Where is the gap? There are a couple things that can cause the problem you have and that one is about the most expensive, so I wouldn't start there
A close exam of the entire front suspension system: Bushings on the control arms, the power steering control valve can do it.
The "gap" are you talking about slop in the steering? turn the wheel to either side with little or no movement in the front wheels. Or maybe the "Rag Joint" its the coupler that connects the steering column to the steering box, when they die you can have 20 or 30* of steering wheel movement, its also available all over the place. Can't tell from the pics

Thank you so much for the help and info.
I talked to my mechanic today and he confirmed its the steering box. Do you know where could i get it online with best price?
Thanks again

I dont much about vette so this might sound a dump question, did the 1980 vette come with both power and nonpower steering?
I know it might be a dump question but as i said i dont know much so the the right way is to ask the expert
Because im ready to order the steering box and i wanna make sure if the steering box in the link you provided will %100 fit my 1980 vette considering weather it was power or nonpower steering. And since im overseas and im not going to be able to return the bad steering box i have on my car right now to the company, i will have to choose the listing with core charge, right?
Thank you do much in advance

If you buy a rebuilt steering box, you will have to pay a core charge. It wouldn't make any difference where you buy it. Everybody charges a core charge, because it's so hard to get cores back from people.

Keep in mind other parts could be really worn as well like the ball joints and tie rods.
Refreshing the whole front suspension made a huge difference on mine but I went with a Rack and Pinon kit.

In the area that you circles, there is a lock nut and an adjusting screw.
This is used to take the free play out of the gear.
You can check to see if the box is loose by twisting the rag joint back and forth. There should be little to no free play.
