Default Another Battery Dead~ Charge Question

1971 Corvette 454:
Well, after the first battery died I blamed it on the battery… Now after the winter I put in another new Battery and it's dead too. So now I'm blaming the car. (Obviously a drain somewhere… What is the most likely culprit for the drain. It has no aftermarket alarm. Just an aftermarket cassette with a circuit to keep the digital clock current...)

The battery is sooo dead when I put a trickle charger on it says on the digital readout of the charger "Connect Leads to Battery".

Sooo with a battery this dead how to I charge it? It seems to me the last battery I couldn't even get it to charge back up… I do own 1 of those power Jump Booster packs? Can I use that to jump the car and run it so it gets SOME power back or will I do harm to the battery?

You can certainly try the large amperage boost on a dead battery. Most charges have at least a 40 AMP and sometimes 50 AMP jump start feature. I'd leave it on for at least three to four minutes, before even attempting to start it. Monitor with your nose, the smell that may come from overcharging. If you start to smell the sulfur, I'd stop the process immediately.

Secondly, once you get it charged up normally, you need to find the drain. You can do this with a multimeter. With the car completely shut down, as if you were parking it and leaving, pull one fuse at a time and measure the current going across the empty fuse terminals. If there's any current that stands out from the others, that's going to be your drain and at least you've localized it to an area.

I have one of these, this one. They are great! This is what I was thinking of using.

Maybe I shouldn't even start the car but let this give the dead battery some power just to get the trickle charge to recognize it…?

Obviously you need to find the source of the slow drain. While in storage, keep a battery tender (not a trickle charger) attached at all times.

I usually do that but this winter it had NO battery in it. I usually have a trickle charger on it, disconnect the neg terminal or have a cut-off switch on my vetoes.

Connect it in parallel with a good battery using jumper cables then connect the charger while they are connected.
Some chargers will not work below a certain voltage.
Parallel is positive to positive and negative to negative terminals.

The Power Booster wouldn't start the engine but it did give enough life to the battery for the charger to register it. It seemed to stop charging at 55% (or so it said on the LED readout).
I left it to charge.
