1982 Heater Core
Hi, I have 20.000 miles on my sons 1982. We plan on driving the car to Carlisle PA from Long island NY. The trip is about 4 to 5 hours. We have never driven this car that many hours. I was wondering if there is a way to check the heater core as I wouldn't want it to go on the way there or back. Thanks

I'd drive it.. I'm not sure why you are worried about it blowing, but if you think there is an issue take a couple of large bolts or plugs and a few extra hose clamps. If it blows you'll be set to bypass it on the road by sticking the large bolts in the hose and clamping the hose to it.. We have some J clamps here we use when we change cores.. the pinch off the hose so nothing can escape but I'd not trust something like that for a "get me home" repair.
If you think the core is leaking, one good sign is windshield fog... another one wold be the obvious.. wet carpet on the passenger side floor.
