d'oh, of course it is not an original engine....

350 and 454 BBC were the engines available up to 1974, 350 was the only engine after that.
427 was available in the late 60's engines also.

The interior is premium, the door skins alone are 400 each.

Does it come certified? If not why?
Do the numbers Match? not that it matters, but tells you that the engine was original or a replacement.
Before you buy it, insist on the used car kit from MTO.

Take a mirror with you to check out the under carriage. Grab the rocker panel when you are sitting in the drivers seat and see if it rocks (rotten). There will be rust, but as long as it is not flaky and falling off, it will be solid.

By now you should have read the Ten Rules For Buying Your First C3 Corvette sticky.

Ask the guy to be honest and tell you what isn't working or will need fixing over the next few years.

Ken

PS, I don't by the 60k KMS...more line 60K Miles.
Thanks again for the response. My plan is to take it to a mechanic/shop in town and get it looked at before I were to pull the trigger. If everything pans out id make an offer. I'm not sure what the used car kit mto is though?

Also the cars odometer is something i asked him about in emails to which I got this reply: "The odometer reads 36466 “miles”. Could be actual miles or it could be 136466. I just don’t know. I was told it was the mileage on the engine when I bought the car. Your best bet would be to come and have a look at it and decide if it is what you looking for."

It is a 400 small block, so, not the original engine. No big deal unless you are into numbers and NCRS cars. Even the colour is questionable as to originality as Chev didn't have black as a dealer option for several years, but, not sure when it was reintroduced.

Other than a few originality issues it looks like a very nice car even at the asking price (certified!). You might try an offer of say $9,000 and see what he comes back with. Keep in mind the need for a professional appraisal (about $250) for taxes and insurance and the taxes themselves!!
To be completely honest, the original numbers and everything like that isn't a top priority for me. My first potential vette purchase, I more or less just care that it's in good shape, runs well etc. Down the road when I have a little bit more toy money so to speak, I might look into an all original or something like that.

as for the appraisal I didn't realise that was a mandatory thing at all, so I'm glad you mentioned it. How do I even go about doing that (sorry for the noobie question)

If that car had 36,000 original miles, it would NOT be a $10k car.

I was referring to the "Used Vehicle Information Package" you have to have to register the car from the Ministry of Transportaton (MTO).

The appraisal is for the insurance company to value the car, just google Car Appraisers in 'your area'. If you have a bad accident, they would pay you nothing on a 40 year old car. the appraisal says the car is worth ?$12,000, then you get 12,000.

Not a deal breaker. The mechanic will tell you what it'll need.

Calipers, parking brake, windshield, tires and operating lights. The standard safety stuff. Can be significant dollars though.

I don't want to hijack this thread but curious what does "certified" imply. Is that similar to passing a state inspection in the US? Thanks.
