Default 1981 guage cluster removal

Does anyone know how to remove the center gauge cluster on an 81 corvette. I have it loose and the speedo cable disconnected but cannot wiggle it out. It doesn't seem to fit. I have the steering wheel all the way down and it feels like I will break it if I try any harder. Any help or secret on how to do this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Take the bolts loose that mount the steering column to the dash. This will allow the column enough room to pull the dash cluster out. I've done it without pulling the steering wheel but it's easier with it off.

Willcox Corvette (supporting vendor) has some great instructions here...http://willcoxcorvette.com/instructi...ng_removal.pdf

Thanks for the tip Street Rat. That worked great. Did not have to remove the steering wheel. Just an FYI for anyone attempting this, There is a wire fastened to the gauge cluster on the drivers door side that is pretty tight so the cluster must be removed toward the inside of the vehicle. Also, it doesn't pop right out, it must be finessed out carefully. Once it is out part way so you can get your hand behind it, reach back and unhook the main power cable carefully.
