Default Brake Problem

I was wondering if your calipers are not ss sleeved, and you need to have them done. Do local brake shops do them, or do you have to send them off, and have done? And does anyone know what that might run as far as price goes? Thanks for the help in advance.

Unless you know the brake shop owner, I'd say you're better to just call Lone Star and buy replacements.

Almost all the Corvette vendors carry stainless steel sleeved calipers. Most will give credit for your cores if they are in otherwise good shape.

I would think that most C3's have already had the calipers sleeved or replaced with sleeved calipers.

Thanks guys for the information, I was under the impression you just had yours sleeved. I guess I was wrong. My next step is to decide who I get them from. Thanks again guys for the help.

Rather than have the stock cast iron calipers re-sleeved, you can buy aluminum calipers with stainless steel liners from Stainless Steel Brake Corporation (SSBC) or Wilwood. The cast iron caliper for each wheel weighs about 16 pounds. The aluminum aftermarket calipers weight about 8 pounds. I have SSBC calipers on my 68 and 70.

Pssst........they also cost two to three times as much, and do a comparable job . Love how people love to spend other peoples money around here.

Bought lots of them there over the years. The one time I had a problem I went back with my receipt several years later, and exchanged it for another one. Works for me.

I wouldn't buy from Auto Zone and the like. They say they're SS sleeved but theyre not.No way to prove it when you buy either. Went that route a few yrs back and like most vettes they sit for long periods of time. All 4 started leaking.Disasembled and found non sleeved calipers!NEW SS/O ring calipers are the only way.

I bought mine from a big supplier who drop shipped from Lonestar. Save yourself any middleman and go direct to Lonestar for oring calipers. Mine work perfectly and eliminated constant issues with the lip seals.

In a nutshell, this is the reason I mentioned them. For anybody wanting to support a vendor; call them and ask where they get their product. Bet most go through Lonestar.
