Has anybody installed one of these yet? MAM isn't building them, they are being built by a 3rd party. Curious to see/hear if its as good as it looks on paper.

Found on the Ecklers sight that the manufacturer is Antique Automobile Radio. Then I searched here on that name and found a couple reviews. Sounds like there has been an issue or two.

I just got a new radio from Ecklers. As I go thru the car I try to keep it looking correct, but modernized if that makes any sense. Anyways here's the radio I got.

Here's the box it came in. I suppose if you want to compete and abide by NCRS specifics then this would not be a viable choice.

this is the reply i gave earlier this year on the same radio..

i have that radio, bought thru willcox, got it on one of their 4th july sales couple years ago.
nothing but trouble with it,
it was broken in the box when it arrived, not willcox's fault, was in a seperate AAR box inside the the main package.
the shafts were loose, no red dial needle and something rattling around in side...
sent back to AAR from downunder, almost 100$ postage later, waited another 5 weeks to replace.
worked fine for a while, 2-3 months.
now the external input dosent respond like it should, and when it does it's so quiet that it's almost impossible to hear.
karnt turn it up more than 2/3 due to distortion.
have contacted AAR again and they gave me the details of a local (still the other side of the country to me) bloke to look at it.
havent heard back from him in over 5 months.
not going to sent it back again.

but they do have a new output board with rca outputs that mine dosent

i have bought a "iSimple" antenna inline box for now.

would not buy another again, way over priced
the only thing it has got going for them is that they look the correct part.

in my 72

I have fitted the Anique Audio radio as well and had better luch than River...

Prior to that i tried the cheaper alternative Retro Radio.

See here...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...journey-4.html

and here....

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...ourney-33.html

All units....

http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...keywords=radio

While you will see in the thread there was a wire that needed re soldering in the AAR unit it has worked fine since then. It is the later version board that what River has so possibly they have resolved some issues.

The cheaper retro radio is half the AAR units cost and while it looks close its not as original looking.

Well I ordered one, so I hope I get lucky.

I had a local guy hook an ipod adapter to my original mono radio, and it worked OK, but the volume wouldn't go very loud, and the radio reception was non-existent. I wont give up the stock appearance, so this should solve all my problems....hopefully.

I have a AM/FM Stereo that needs to be rebuilt for my 70. I'll try to keep posted with how that progress goes. The 70 is a two box configuration..it uses a standard AM/FM radio and has a second box that performs the stereo function and drives the speakers. From what little I know, these Delco radios had non-standard speakers. You have to have the original Delco speaker..or at least it's impedance...to work correctly. Most generic speakers are designed for just an alternating current...these Delco speakers were designed for a direct DC bias current with an alternating current (the music) superimposed on top of the direct DC bias current. For you early C3 radio to work correctly my understanding is that you need the speakers specifically designed to work with early C3 radios. My understanding...I'm a neophyte here .is that if you don't have the correct speakers, you can damage the output transistors of the stock radios. So the hypothetical fear here is that after you pay big bucks to restore your radio, connecting it up to incorrect speakers will destroy it. Don't know if this incorrect speaker statement is true. Check these comments out with your radio restorer.
