I'm sure I'm the minority, but I have zero interest in owning a new/newer Corvette. I would however own a a newer/new 997 or 991 Porsche

I agree the c7 looks better in person. But I like the looks of the C5 better than the C6or C7. I don't like the look of the exposed headlights

This. I liked what I saw in pictures, but I loved what I saw in person. It does have a very Euro high-end sports car look that not everyone will like, it would be right at home with a prancing horse instead of crossed flags.

That's funny 'cause that is exactly what I like about the C6 & C7. But, I love the lines on my C3. I have always considered the C3 the sexiest car ever produced. But, I'm weird like that

I would be curious to see what Chevy could do with a C3 inspired retro styled vette similar to what they did with the Camaro.

in researching C3s over the last month i checked out a couple of books at local library that had reviews of models going back to the 50s...during a couple of pts in the 70s, one in the 80s, one in the 90s there was a comparison of certain years corvettes vs. porsche 911. i believe in the 70s it was stated that the corvette usually won as "best sports car for the money" b/c the porsche usually was much more....it was then in the 80s and then in the 90s the C4s started matching their speed more closely, and i think they still gave the "best value sports car" nod to corvettes....in the end the comparisons seemed a bit forced...i think each car appeals to a certain buyer...the other funny thing is the magazines usually took the "european view of sportscars" and usually had the "are corvettes really sports cars" b/c they are bigger/bigger engines, heavier than most european sports cars....but in the 70s the motto seemed to be "americans like their big powerful motors"....funny reads of course....and again...they did seem like odd comparison cars...

slightly OT...today out at our local mall, parked near us was a porsche 911 carerra 4s and across from it was a newer camero...

as i walked by them both i thought, you know, the porsche looks like nothing except a porsche....and when i walked by the newer camero (i couldn't tell you the year, don't follow these) i thought you know, this looks sort of like a C4 from the back....and i thought in a way that's not good for how the cars are perceived....i of course only thought of this b/c i had been researching C4s more, and one of the big knocks against it was the design...and i know in the history of the redesigns of these cars they shared the same designers & engineers....and honestly part of me thought: hmmm, maybe they should have brought in some new blood to redesign the vette in the early 80s...but i also realize it's a co. trying to sell a product, etc....

i have no way of tying this in w/ a C3....all i have to say is C3s look like nothing else, and i think that is a good thing...b/c i think they are F***ing awesome looking....bar none!

They can not even be trusted on those cars.

"In the past, because Toyota products have so consistently proved reliable, the magazine would assume at least average reliability for Toyota's brand new cars, without waiting for survey data from owners.

But from now on, the magazine will wait for a full year of reliability survey data to come in before it recommends a Toyota product - as it does with most other manufacturers."
http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/16/auto...ce=yahoo_quote

CR has always been biased against domestic cars. The magazine is for people who are to lazy to do their own research but also want to feel like they made a good decision.

You know Mav. .. I stopped for fuel in a servo with my 68 vert BB on a car trailer, and a woman passing commented
" That is the rudest car I've ever seen. " I recon that was great..
Your dead right.. steel bumper C3 is darn right sexy to the core.

They do look better in person Ill agree

Been many many yrs since Ive seen a new car that spoke to me just had to have.

None of them have any soul at all.

Power, electronic gadgets sure just not my thing

Was on the fwy at dawn coming home from work this morning, thought I had a CHP behind me crown vic, it was a Camry lights look the same.

I miss distinctive exh notes (or cars you can hear period), bodylines, chrome bumpers, real emblems, trim etc. Everything is plastic, simulated or fake looking something. Even the bumpers on my Silverado arent real bumpers, just pieces of tin.

I'm with Cuisinart. There's almost no new car out that warrants a second look from me. Well, perhaps a horrified one.
C7 does look better in person.
Newer 911 derivatives don't look good to me either. They've flattened them too much in the front.
Yes, I own a 911 too. An '82 sc. Still a real 911, air/oil cooled.
New Porsche's don't even smell right...

was watching this funny comedy roundtable with jerry seinfeld, louis ck, chris rock and rickey gervais.

at one pt louis ck says that early in his career after one of his acts seinfeld made some reference to him that he was like a corvette...the comedian took this as a compliment, b/c to him corvettes were cool...
it was after he got to know jerry better he realized that jerry was a "porsche snob" (andrew's words) and to jerry they were "****** cars"...

thought that was kind of funny...they were all laughing about it...

The guy across the hall from me in the office has Porches and I have Corvettes. We track the cars, me with my C5. For him he goes to Porsche only track days, they won't let anyone else in and I think because they don't like being lapped by Miatas which are great little cars for the track and do lap faster straight line cars because of the speed on the curves.

Anyway there is a huge cost difference in owning and keeping them up. Prior to a track day his club requires a dealer prep check out which can cost $4500. Me I check my own car out and change my own brake pads before an event. Quite a difference. In general most Porsche folk have dealer work done and most Corvette folk (Track guys anyway) do their own work.

EDIT: And they do cost much more to buy.

I'd say it's about a wash on Porsche people having shop work done relative to Corvettes.
The newer ones go to the shop. The older ones get worked on by their owners.

Some time on the Porsche forums will prove this out.
