Default Directionals: any advice?

This is a '72. Both directional and backup lights are inop. I checked the fuse and it's good, and have 12 volts on both sides of the fuse. All other lights work. The hazard flasher works, but really fast, similar to when a directional bulb is bad.
I have a wiring diagram, but it isn't exactly the same. I'm about to drop the spare and check plugs in the rear, grounds, etc.
Is there somewhere else I should check?
Thanks,
pb

you have replaced flasher for turn signal? located on passenger side upper kick panel.
back up lights also gets its power from that same, flasher point, check for power at signal flasher, I suspect you have none,
follow that back into the fuse block, sometimes the fuse block corrodes internally, the only way to know is pull the fuse block, and open it up and physically verify and trace power feed to hazard flashers.

Thank you! I didn't know where the flasher was located. And how do you pull the fuse block?
(Damn, I love this forum)

Okay, I checked voltage at the signal flasher. None. Now try to pull fuse block. Very difficult to get at.

There is a condenser across the terminals of the directional flasher. I removed it. Is it critical?
I'm trying to pull the fuse block. 2 screws on opposite corners. They are loose, but nothing is moving. Is this a remove the dash project?

not an easy job, but then nothing easy for the corvette. you did test with ignition key on right?
disconnect battery, remove screw on engine side holding the engine bay connectors inplace,
then unplug the engine bay connectors (2 of them on engine side)
then remove 2 screws from inside, you should get a schematic digging this deep.
then undo clips holding the block together, carefully pry apart front and back,
follow the flasher wire into the block, it should go to the fuse clip, which you stated has 12volts. good luck
dash removal not required if you can stand on your head !

Oh boy! Yes, tested with ignition on. I hadn't a clue about fasteners on the engine side. BTW, I've had this car since new and done a lot of work myself, but this is an entirely new one for me. Many thanks.
