I have a 74 SBC with a th350 transmission and I believe it has a 308 position but when I am cruising around at 55 MPH I am @2300 employees and it does not shift until 65 MPH. Shouldn't it be shifting around 53 MPH or do I have different gears in the rear.

Could have 2.73's like me... Or 2.72's... Whichever came with my 81 automatic... Those numbers are a little high for a th350... Mine shifts into 4th OD at that speed with a 700r4... If I keep it in third it'll shift into 3rd around 30mph... Locks into hydraulic lockup at 35mph...

Granted, with my foot in it, the car will shift from first to second at 75mph and roughly. 6500rpms... But with this trans and rear gear setup I have, I need to see 63-65mph before 4th gear lockup engages...

If I manually keep the shifter in third gear... Which has the same final gear ratio as a th350(1:1) it'll shift into third at 30, lockup at 35, and cruise at 55mph at 2200-2300ish Rpms... So that's about normal...

The 1981 automatic came with a 2.87 rear end. California cars came with 2.72
