Good Afternoon all
I'm planning on replacing the carpet in my 1980. I have a doe skin colored interior and going to put in black carpet. Can anyone give me any advise on which carpet to buy. I bought a new leather shifter boot and emergency brake cover and was not very happy with the quality or fitment. I do not want the same problem with my carpet.
Also I might be looking to change the entire interior to black. My pillar posts are in good condition with no cracks so, I would like to paint them. Anyone paint plastic parts and what kind of paint did you use.
Thanks for any advise and have a great day
Gary
I replaced the carpet in my 80 with whatever Willcox, a supporting vendor, sells. It seems like it was in a Corvette America box. Preformed, fit with minor trimming as with any other set, and looks good at a good price. Remember, they offer forum members discounts and they have good sales occasionally. I recommend it.
Mike is totally correct about SEM interior dye. Nothing better when applied correctly.

Painting the SEM interior "dye." Don't expect to spray down one or two coats and think you're done. The "dye" paint doesn't work that way. Spray a very light coat...let it dry..spray another light coat...let it dry..do this about 12 or more times. Don't spray on a thick coat and you'll get a runner. ...Just keep on with very thin coats, time after time, they dry quickly between coats. ....you'll get a little bored...thin coat after thin coat,.but you won't have runners and ultimately a nice painted (oops..dye'd) part. I've done this with quiet few interior parts.

For painting plastic parts Corvette America and I believe Eckler's has a cleaner, primer, and interior matching plastic paint. They also have a satin clear to help protect the paint.
Mini thread hijack...
When installing carpet pieces on Shifter Console Trim Panel, since the top fits in a groove, do you glue it like 1/8 or 1/4 below the top edge, or even with top and no glue at outer edge?
Interior was gutted and those we're missing when I got car.
Thanks in advance!
