Could someone please tell me if the wiper switch should have a ground wire and if so, where does it attach to the switch. I see in some wiring diagrams a ground wire but I have the switch out and I didn't see a wire.
I am trying to turn the wipers off and I can't----so far.---boB
The switch is mounted to the dash. Do you mean a wire runs from the bezel to the switch? But where ,on the switch does the wire hook up?
No, the wiper switch is mounted / bolted to the bezel. The case of the wiper switch is the ground for the switch.
Sometimes the bezel ground isn't the best.
As a test, you can run a wire with alligator clips from the bezel to a good ground and see what happens. No need to disassemble anything to see if that resolves your issues.
Here are two pics of my problem. The switch just pulls out of the dash. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be a press fit or if someone has messed with the mounting of it. The switch, as you can see in the other pic, is out. the metal on the exterior of the switch, is that what you are referring to as the bezel? if so, is it supposed to contact the metal part of the dash? Is it possible for a lack of ground at the switch to cause my wipers not to turn off?

Well, I put two short 8 inch jumpers to the metal of the dash from the switch bezel but now I see I only have current at the "F" terminal of the plug and the wipers don't work at all. I appear to be going backwards. The shop manual said to remove the wire from the#1 terminal on the motor and if the wipers shut off then the wire was shorting? When I did that---They did shut off, but now they won't go.
