I replaced the exhaust system on my '79 but I have a question about the passenger side where the head pipe connects to the heat riser valve. The bottom of the heat riser valve is shaped to mate to the exhaust pipe. It doesn't seem correct to me to install a donut gasket there because the gasket would only fit correctly to the pipe side. On the valve side it wouldn't mate and seal up correctly to the "funnel shaped" bottom of the valve. Can someone shed some light on how this goes together? I tried it without a gasket and it of course leaks at this joint. I've looked all over the corvette parts sites and none indicate that there is a different type of gasket that goes there.
the flared socket end of the pipe should mate up to the heat risers built in rounded ball flange no gasket required on pipe side.
Yep, that's how I have it assembled currently, using that gasket between the riser and the manifold. But it's leaking between the pipe and the riser valve. Maybe I will try tightening the nuts first and see if that seals it up
