So I'm in the market for a 78 pace car. I have a few questions
1) How can I tell if the door decal is OEM or a repro?
2) How can I date code tires?
3) Any info to things to look for?
I'm looking for the most original car I can find. I want to actually drive it to show's nice days, ect. Thanks for any help you could provide.

In the box or on the door? If on the door, the repro could be a better quality...better materials and technology are used to make today's decals. In the box...part number.
Not sure how familiar you are with Pace Cars but the vehicle identification number (VIN) differs from coups and therefore is an important tag to be familiar with...look at the driver's side windshield post.
There is a link in General Section (above) with what to look for when buying a C3. I would suggest looking through it. Ten rules for buying a C3
Also, use the forum search feature (above to the right) and search on Pace Car. Much as been written and I believe yu will find it useful to read what many others have posted.
Hope this gets you started...

Thank You Sir, I've been reading up as much as I can find on these and as soon as I find the "right" one I'm ready. I'm thinking of going to Carlisle maybe there will be a few there for sale. Thanks again.
Agreed, If the car has original tires that's OK.I will replace and save the originals. But if someone say's they where replaced I would like to know the process of dating them so I can make sure they are still safe. Also about the decals I wanted to know the difference as it may tell a tale as to whether the car was painted and they used repro decals. Either way it is certainly not a deal breaker. I just want to have a good safe as close to original car as possible. This is all good info, Thanks for your input.
I have a 78 with a trim tag date of May 15th soon after they stopped making pace cars. The spare tire date is as follows, with 058 meaning 5th week of 1978:
I have seen that 4spd car in the adds. Thanks guys. I think Carlisle is in my future. I live in CT so i will be an excellent adventure for me and my son (16) I'm praying for nice weather and an available hotel room. How many pace cars have you seen F/S in the past there?
