Really like the look but not the price tag and the having to deal with the gas cap in the door. so I started thinking about how to make one functional. Saw an older thread with a smaller cap mounted on an instant fill. Then saw this door for bout $100 and got an idea.
Found out from another member this fits. doesnt screw on but wedges in the neck nice and tight. Did have to sand it a little bit.
The cap from speedway. Looks cool, I like it. Note the neck on it.Also needed a flat piece of fiberglass. Good thing I saved the piece I cut out of the hood.
Not sure if they all sit like this or just mine but the cap is toward the top of the hole for the door. You can see I offset the inner hole toward the top. The Stant cap also has the fill hole off center, by putting it "upside down" its in the perfect spot.
I used structural epoxy, then glass then rage to seal in my filler piece. I set the lemans cap on the stant, measured then cut the filler tube.
Looks awesome! and fully functional
Set in drilled holes for the screws and set it aside to finish my wet sanding. I do want to use something as a gasket between the top of the stant cap and the bottom of the lemans filler neck. Must be a sheet of gas tank gasket material at the auto parts store or something. Worst case I'll use some rtv.
