Yeah thats another reason why I haven't gotten around to finishing my '72, just too hot in the garage and even warmer outside. At least in the garage though, the sun isn't getting you. I have a few temp gauges in the garage and they all read about 95 degrees today.
That's a nice size shop. At 100+ degrees it's not like you don't need to cool it down. It scares me to think what running it is going to do to your electricity bill though.

I'm also a bit concerned about the cost, but will only use it when I'm in it.. Not going to leave it on..
Today is Compressor day.. Got a trench to dig for the power and Propane line. Then pour the pad.

Thanks, and I don't need it at 65 degrees If I get it down to 80 would be comfortable to work in..

Its sure is the reason I have not got much done on my 73 since April... I know the temperature of 104 yesterday was a killer...
I am right behind you on this project. I spent last week getting quotes for spray foam insulation in my shop, I am putting in A/C as well. I ran the main power back to the shop last weekend and finished up the inside wiring yesterday.
This heat is just unbearable, hard to get motivated to work on the car when you feel like you are melting.

I might need to do the insulation also, are you spraying in a attic or on metal building? I would be interested on what the cost to do it? What size is your shop? We do not have any local company that does that type of insulation, it would have to get a company from Austin.
Nice work, amigo. Having cooled air to beat the heat soaking through a metal roof will be so very welcomed. Having roots to West Texas, I can appreciate the effort to make your shop more livable. Don't you have to put up with a higher level of humidity than the high deserts out west? High heat and high humidity is a terrible environment to move forward in.
Good luck and enjoy the new controlled climate when you're working on the car.
Years ago I had the spray foam insulation done to my 45x50 hangar... added two ceiling fans and what a difference!! It's normally 10 degrees from ambient.. so the fans or heater make it comfortable enough to work in...
I f your cash is limited, try the A/C without insulation....it the unit runs constantly the first few days, install insulation---it will pay for itself.......And 80 degrees will feel cold after walking thru 100*+ heat to get to your garage.
(I'm inspired..............next spring my 25 by 25 under-roof garage will be 80*F ! )

Yeah I havent touched my '70 Mustang in close to 2-3 years. Between time, money and the weather…I only get a few chances every now and then when all 3 align at the same time. I do suffer through the heat when time and money allow me to make progress, but it takes away from the enjoyment of problem solving as I focus on how hot it is.

I built a Mueller metal building 2 years ago, just now getting around to finishing it out. You know, "projects" keep getting in the way.
The spray foam is not cheap, so far the lowest quote I have received is $2000 for the 24' x 24' building. Another hot day like yesterday and I will think that is a steal...LOL.
That's an awesome shop you have and you will appreciate the a/c. I just have a large attached two car garage with 12 foot ceilings. Living in SC the summers are sweltering so I added this ductless unit a few years ago. This summer since I have retired and am now spending more time out there it is worth it's weight in gold.
