Default Spark plug routing questions

I'm ready to do the plug wires tonight hoping to fire this up tomorrow night. I would like to route the wires from the top, I have found some posts with successful routing, but all of the pictures show headers.

I have the ram horns and stock L82 valve covers. Has anyone done this successfully or am I trying to route the wires through the motor mounts?

I have MSD 8mm wires

Thanks in advance

FWIW: the factory routed them from underneath to keep them off the exhaust manifolds.

I was afraid you'd say something like that Mike.

Yes, I did that job three years ago.

It does require measuring, cutting, stripping, and installing brass connectors for the distributor end. Straight-on boots keep them away from the exhaust manifolds.

Not sure if you can get the boots off of the wires you are using. I used AC Delco wires and removed the boots from the distributor side. To help the boots slide off I used the applicator straw on a silicone spray can and inserted it between the wire and the boot. I removed the front wheels and lifted up the rubber shields that cover the control arms. I then had easy access to feed the wires thru the motor mounts. On the 1979 and 80 cars, there is a loom in this area for wires to feed thru. I loosened the screw holding it and pushed the wires thru. Only dealing with the front two wires on each side of the engine.

Paul,

That looks like what I want to do but my wires have the 90 degree boot, that boot is already on the wire, I have to cut and crimp the distributor end. I might be stuck routing them under the car

If you have the correct routing hardware, looms and shields down there then that is the right way to go. I did not and the wires were just flopping around. Hence my decision to go over the top.

Nope! I have none of that! not at all. Moroso has a set of looms part number 72195 that might work, or I'll have to pony up for a new set of wires.

You want the wires secure either the OEM way or how I did it. Loose wires flopping in the breeze is not a good way to go.

I ordered this set from Moroso. And I must've done something wrong, feeding the plug wires, even 8.5mm though the motor mounts was probably the easiest thing I've done on this car so far lol. So clearly I didn't do it right.

Better undo and redo just to be sure, things aren't suppose to go easy on these cars.
