My speedometer has been bouncing around between 5-30 MPH for a long time, then it finally quit.
I removed the top speedometer cable from the transducer, spun the loose cable with my fingers and luckily the needle moved as expected.
From what I read on this forum, the bottom cable should not spin, as it is locked in gear. If it does spin, it most likely has snapped OR the plastic transmission gear is worn out. If it does not spin, then the transducer's gears are suspect.
I would love to test all this out, but I absolutely cannot pull or wiggle the cable from the transducer. Please see pic.
Is there a trick to removing the bottom cable from the transducer? Any help would be appreciated.

It should come right out, but if not, remove the x-ducer itself, from the transmission and at least, it will be down off of there and in your hands. A small tab, at the base, locks it in place. Loosen the bolt and rotate the tab away. You can now remove the transducer and maybe you'll need needle nose pliers, to remove the stuck cable.

I think the tab is down on the transmission itself, the pic is of the unit in the engine bay I think. With that said, I don't know why your cable is stuck.
Yes, it's almost like it press-fit or torqued itself into the brass fitting. I need to get my hands on a really long pair of needle nose pliers or remove the transducer to get a better angle on the cable.
So, once I get it off - if the bottom cable is okay - it should not spin. Is that correct?
Update: I was able to walk the cable out by using a l-o-n-g nose pliers and a wide standard screwdriver. Still not sure why it was so fused inside the brass fitting, however it did look dry and a little orange - like rust was setting in.
BTW: The bottom cable did not spin - which was a good sign that the cable did not snap or the plastic gear at the trans was shot.
Pulled the cable completely out of its housing. lubed it up, then snaked it back in.
Replaced the Transducer. The speedometer is working and the universe is now aligned again.
