Your sources are correct. If the original sheet is not on the top of the fuel tank, you are not likely to find one.
Copies of Corvette orders have been found behind the speedo/tach, behnd the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, and under the carpet in the rear storage area. All of these locations are hit or miss. Most owners find nothing in these locations.
