Default Body mounts

I have an 80. Is it possible to replace the body mounts 1 at a time?

I suppose it's possible. Saves a bit of time and effort if you replace a side at a time.

Before you begin removing them, count the shim stacks at each location. They should go back in exactly as they came out.

If you break a bolt or the caged nut spins then what?
If your lucky it'll work. I went through this last winter. I wasn't lucky. I've got pics somewhere if you want them for reference.

Replacing rear frame mounts or fixing body mount fiberglass is a lot harder with the body on.

I'd agree that one side at a time might be better. Just be aware as you lift one side the other side is flexing and could bend or break somewhere. Might make issues worse.

I've got mine jacked up on one side now. I am cleaning up the frame rail to get ready to put the new mounts on then I will repeat for the other side. I loosened up all 8 mounts and left the side not being lifted still connected but very loose. I think you will crack something if you try to jack it up without loosening everything up.

I think I'm going to pass on this project for now. I really don't feel like cracking anything.

If you do it the way teamo explained it you shouldn't crack anything. I did mine that way.

Hi,
I'm in the middle of my 70, working on body mount bolts. How high was you able to left the body and what else did you have to disconect?

Loosen all 8 bolts and then take all 4 out on one side. You don’t have to go very high. Just high enough to slide old out and new in. Most importantly put the same amount of shims back. I never disconnected anything. Like I said your not jacking the body up very high. Maybe an inch of that much. Good luck

This is my C2 (1964), but same concept.



Yeah, I was a little paranoid about a Jack stand slipping!

I went up about 6” so I could get in there to clean, inspect and paint the frame.

Glad I did as I discovered this, my rear brake line completely crushed. I replaced it and the fuel lines “while I was in there”.

There is something very satisfying about new stuff!
