I'm new to corvettes so I have questions! A friend is wanting to trade his 74 for my honda motorcycle. The car is a 74 with a 454 automatic. What are things I need to look for and be aware of before and if I trade him? Thank you Travis
A lot of what you're asking depends on exactly what condition the '74 in question is. It may be worth less than the Honda motorcycle you're trading for it, or more. If you could post pictures, that would be very, very helpful as the experts on here, can tell you a lot about the car, just from looking at it.
Need interior shots, seats, rear compartment, underneath the car, especially the frame rails under the doors, engine compartment and rear bumper, as well as the rear suspension. You want to know, exactly what you're getting into with this.
These aren't like your typical vintage Camaro, Chevelle or Nova. The parts are expensive and they can be tough to work on, especially the interior.
I dont ride the motorcycle my anymore really dont need the car but dont know if i can pass it up. The motorcycle is only worth 2000. But the car was backed into on the passenger side and broke the fiberglass. It's been sitting for a couple years. It starts had good compression. So I know it's gonna need weatherstripping. When I get to a computer I will post pictures of what I have.
In my opinion, if you want the Corvette to keep, not to restore and sell, then it seems like a pretty decent trade (that opinion might change once I see pictures.) I would say a C3 with a big block is probably worth $2000 at minimum, but only to someone who intended to keep it. When you talk about glasswork the cost of repair ends up being about the same as the selling price increase.
My '74 needed all sorts of work when I bought it, too. But it was all work that would have to be done to do the mods I wanted anyway (e.g racing seats, custom paint job, roll bar, etc.)
You won't come out ahead unless you actually want the car.
