Default Wiring help.

Does anyone know if any other year wiper and headlight harness will interchange with a 79?

I understand there were harness changes from year to year but I can’t seem to find what changed and when. The interior (dash) wires for these are all bare, fused together or just melted away (at and including the switches and up to the fuse box) so I can’t really match them up to a diagram for other years as there isn’t much left to match them up to.

Oddly enough, the fuse box and rest of the harness is in great shape except for a few grounds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as the wipers- the intermittent module is located in the console under the dash in 78-79. For 80-82 module is different and mounted in the jack compartment. So- for the wipers -it's unique to 78-79.

Here's some wiring diagrams to look at-

Thanks for the reply and diagrams. Now I know what color they were supposed to be and have a pretty good idea it’s the correct harness for the year (wasn’t sure). It’s a bit of a guessing game with this car, had huge checkered flag stickers, matching checkered flag seat covers and 6 toggle switches (that I could see) when I traded so I knew it was kind of *cough* “custom”. After really digging in I ended up with a milk crate of extra wires, connectors and toggle switches (One switch was stuffed in behind the carpet on the passenger quarter panel).

Is it a *thing* for the c3 (some years) to toast the wiper and headlight harness? I can’t really tell where some of those toggle switches went but something ruined the wiring, the factory switches and melted the side of the pod the speedometer sits in but the dash looks fine and you would never know it got that hot unless you looked under the dash (or hooked a battery up). The speaker wires behind the air dam were fine (yes, there were speakers there).

I'm not sure if you're repairing the dash harness or replacing it, but if it's as bad as you say, you're much better off, just getting an entirely brand new harness from Wilcox. It will save you a lot of time, trouble and problems down the road. I tried to rescue the old patched up, taped up and beat up dash harness I had, multiple times. Ended up on the side of the freeway, after it had caught fire and smoked out the cockpit, one fine Sunday morning.

Its one of those stubborn things I suppose. I want to run new wires from the fuse box connections and make a few changes along the way so buying a new harness and ripping it apart would be a waste. It was just the plugs for the lights and wipers that I couldn’t find but I think I have that sorted now thanks to a dead c4 and the wiring diagrams posted here.
