Default Steering wheel removal

I have two questions.

1)- Is the steering wheel the same for Tilt and Non-Tilt columns?

2)- If so....does the steering attach the same to each column?

Any removal and attchment pictures would be appreciated.

Lets see...the wheels are the same, the hubs are different...if I recall correctly,

Sometimes you get a hint as to what year Vette by your name. So I would assume that you have a 1976 Vette. Also you gave no indication as to what type steering column (T&T or standard non-adjustable).

Let's assume that you have a 1976, the one year only maverick of the C3 era.
These standard columns during the C3 years had seperate hubs 1968-75 and molded hubs 1976-79 when Vettes went 100% T&T columns.

All T&T columns during the C3 years 1968-75 and 1977-82 have seperate hubs and the steering wheel bolts to a hub with six screws.

The 1976 steering columns have steering wheel assemblies that have hubs molded right onto the steering wheel itself. The steering wheels are unique (T&T 1976 - one year only) and (standard 1976-79 unique for these 4 years.)

I know that the above sounds complicated. But let's start with year and type of steering column and what you want to accomplish.

Thanks Jim.....I actually own a 76 AND a 71. I'm working on my 71.

My 71 started out as a standard column car. I have purchased a T&T column and I plan on installing it tomorrow. However...looking over the new column...im not sure how many of my old STD column parts will work on the new T&T column.

Wondering if the steering wheels are the same for both columns.
Also concerned about getting the horn mechanism and button right.

The steering wheel should directly bolt onto the T&T hub.
Here is a picture of all the special T&T parts that you will need to attach your steering wheel. I hope that you obtained a good number of the parts when you purchased the T&T column.

You will need parts 1 thru 8; then 10, 11, (the pic of 12 should show a big spring attached to it), then 13 thru 16 and 18.
Good luck,
Jim

Thanks Jim.....I think I have everything I need.

The only question remaining is the orintation of the horn contact assembly. How does the whole; small spring, push pin and insulator go? The pin has a head on one end. Does the head go up, (toward the inside of the car), or does it go downward, (toward the floor of the car)?

Does the horn contact with the three screws tighten down tight or do you leave some slack for the horn button to mve / push?

Do you have a paper that outlnes the horn set up?

This blowup of the 1977 T&T column has the picture more correct than the first picture I sent you. First, the big spring is shown in its correct location (attached to #1 lower horn contact.) Second, it does show the #2 spring, #3 eyelet, and #4 insulator and how they assemble into the plastic horn tower that is part of the lower horn contact. The eyelet has a nail type head that installs directly on top of the small coil spring. What is called the insulator holds the eyelet and spring in the horn tower.

The upper horn contact assembly is mounted tight.

I do have a paper on installing late T&T columns into the early C3s.

1976 Corvettes were available with standard (non-adjustable) steering columns as well as T&T columns.

Default Steering Wheel Removal

Sorry about that, hit the wrong button on this keypad. Let me repeat that last reply to thread...on my '69 T & T steering wheel I'm having a heck of a time removing the "Nub Arm" (just above the horn contact pin). Have removed the 3 screws on the back, put a puller on the nub arm and can't budge it off. Tried tapping w/a hammer, ran all sorts of penetrating fluid down it...still no luck. Any ideas/advise out there? Thanks in advance.

all I can offer is to bump this to the top again .

This puller was not able to pry it loose!

This hub arm does not want to come off!
