Default Gauge Light Removal

Im pulling the instrument cluster to for refurbishment on a 69. How do the gauge light housings remove? I have tried one of them, the plastic came off, but it left a metal retaining ring attached to the cluster. So do they twist out? I tried twisting one gently but it doesn't want to budge. thanks

That's how you remove them, you twist them off. It's likely that they're stuck there by all the years. Try gently working a small screwdriver around the circumference, before you pull the connector off. Examine them too, if the copper wire is hanging out the back, that is a 'hot' wire and could short-circuit if anything touches it. You can buy some liquid, brush-on electrical insulation at a home improvement store, just remember, that's a temporary fix, short of replacing them or the whole harness.
