I'm looking for leads to the best thread or YouTube vid of how to service the rear end. IE take it apart, clean clutch packs and reassemble.
I've been searching for DAYS, literally! I can't find much I'll tell you.
You may want to re-title the thread. I know I pasted it bye a few time due the the title. Ask for detailed rear end rebuilding information. Just a thought. There is a lot of knowledgeable member that share. It will come.
Good luck, I
What exactly do u need? I used information from the Chevrolet service manual, often overlooked, information from Randy's ring and pinion tech area, information from the digital corvette page linked above, and several generic differential overhaul YouTube videos.
Tearing apart is straight forward, but the service manual usually details it, along with installation. Randy's website has good info, and even your new r&p set has instructions. But basically, record every shim, mark the caps from which side and orientation removed. Take lots of pictures too. Like you said it's not rocket science, but some special tooling is required. As an aircraft mechanic even I didn't own a in lb dial indicator type torque wrench necessary for finalizing pinion bearing pre load or a 4' long torque wrench capable of torquing the pinion nut and crushing the sleeve, but my work place did. Borrowing them after work was no problem, and I also used there press when removing the pinion bearing from the pinion gear. It's press fit, and a shim is there that I did reuse. Also I built a fixture to hold the pinion yoke while torqueing.
See tooling up is probably the reason more home mechanics don't do there own differentials. I did mine and it's not a hard task.
