Default Carpet install

Hey guys; I know this has probably been covered before but couldn't find it under the search function. Received my carpet from Wilcox and will start to install this week . Looking at the top of the footwells there are two small rectangular covers with what looks like half inch plugs in them. is this where the carpet plugs go or is there another reason for them. Thanks
It's a '73 vert.

Pull them out and re-install. When you put the new carpet in, you need to know where the plugs go...Use an "ice pick" to probe the carpet looking for the hole for the plug. It helps to pull the carpet back from the foot-firewall and look were the plugs are going..this allows me to use the pick and get an accurate plunge into the firewall fiberglass hole that's been drilled for them. Once you've found the firewall hole, you're on your way.

When its time to make small holes in the carpet a hot soldering gun works fine.
