I am replacing the worn rollers on my window regulators. Can anyone tell me if there is a tool that is used to press the roller shafts on to the arms of the regulator. Any suggestions of what to use? I would appreciate some comments before I have a go at them and stuff them up.
Easy way (if out of the car) A block of steel at least 1" thick, behind the flat part and then a wide faced punch, so you could spread out the shaft into a fastener, evenly all the way around. Big well-balanced one pound sledge, to hammer that bad boy down.
The better way, is with a rivet gun and somebody bucking it, (or you buck it) with a flat chunk of steel, while the other party or hand, blasts away. Need a rivet gun, air and that aforementioned, chunk of steel).
We've done it the first way and that's what works.
Thanks for the tip, but I'm a little confused (it doesn't take much to confuse me). I assume you mean that you place the nylon roller side down on the 1" steel and hit the other side shaft with the punch??? Wouldn't that damage the nylon roller, as the steel part seems to sit in a little from the actual nylon roller part? The shaft has a hollow section that I assume would flatten out when it is hit.
