Default Gas Tank - Replacement Question

Greetings all! As part of making "the list" on my new-to-me 1969 convertible, a fellow Corvette enthusiast (rebuilding a 1968 and a garage full of parts that would make Chevy jealous), went around, up, though, and under the car to start "the list"

Tops are things like refurbed calipers (hey, one is new! one is less new... and those other 2 came with the car I think...), and another is the gas tank.

No leaks yet, but he's concerned enough that some of the surface-appearing rust in the corner might be deeper. So rather than be "surprised" on a jaunt one day, couple questions:

1) I've seen mixed opinions - buy new, see if someone can fix/refurb old (since it's original), etc. - I'm leaning towards the "buy new" on the advice I've seen of "you've seen one issue, prob more waiting, just replace" - but any reasons I should try and keep / refurb?

2) Aside from the tank sticker (assuming it's original), any other "make sure you..." or "don't get rid of" points I need to keep in mind?

3) If I do replace, I've seen tanks available quite a few places. Anyone recently replace theirs and have a good experience to share?

Thanks a million! ~Paul

A brand new, using exact GM dies tank is available for just a little more than $200.00 dollars from QUANTA. This is a no brainer. Gasoline is expensive and dangerous. Gas will leak from a hole that water will not leak from. I was a fuel handler in the Army for three years. Lou.

Repeat ...no brainer....buy a factory duplicate tank from Quanta. $200+ dollars.

BTW. The tanks typically rust/corrode from the inside out.
