Default Brake ?

I have a 71 4sp.with manual brakes. The entire brake system is either new or rebuilt. I can't get a good pedal. Any tricks that I'm not aware of? Thanks

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? On the rears, did you bleed the inner caliper halves first, then the outers.

Not sure what you mean by a "good pedal", soft/spongy indicating air is still in the system.
1. Did you bench bleed the master?
2. Did you start with the RR caliper inner bleed screw, then outter bleed screw and tap the caliper to dislodge air bubbles. Then went to LR, RF, LF?
3. Did you replace all the rubber lines?

Yes I bled the master cyl.
Yes I replaced all of the lines, rubber and metal
car still has air in the lines. It was bled by the old 1 2 3 hold method.

That's the source of your spongy pedal.

Time to bleed again.

You first post you were vaque as to what was rebuilt and what was replaced. Was the master rebuilt or replaced? If rebuilt what condition was the bore in?

I have always used the gravity method to bleed not sure what "1 2 3 hold" means. A helper pumps and then holds and you open the bleeder?

All parts were replaced with either new or store bought rebuilt parts. Master cylinder and calipers rebuilt.

Yes a helper pumps the pedal and then holds it while you open the bleeder.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

I agree with MelWff that gravity is the best way to bleed the brakes. I just bleed my brakes this week because of rotor run out problem. I went around the car two times, waited until the next morning and did them again. Now have a good hard pedal. Be sure to use a rubber mallet to tap the calipers to dislodge any air bubbles. Good luck

Paul, just keep at it. Bleeding the brakes on these cars is one of the most popular WTF topics here on the forum. It took me the better part of a week to get mine bled. I have a very slight leak on one of my calipers now and Ive been procrastinating 8 months so far because I dont want to bleed them again.

So....it wasn't the brain damage or meds that caused me to bleed them 5 times after rebuilding everything (1-2-3-hold)! Of course bleeding them without replacing the 45 year old rubber hoses didn't help on the first two tries!

New hoses="New" pedal!
