Just finished rebuilding the 427 that I stuffed into my 70 vert-yeah, I know it should be a 454, but you gotta run what you brung. It was a motor that came with a 69 that I parted. It ran well, but didn't have the power that I wanted-sound like a familiar story? I had previously rebuilt the carb and was sure that it wasn't the problem. I called my engine guy, Bob Lee in Fort Lauderdale and he recommended Sealed Power L2300NF pistons and Comp cam Cl11-601 (****** Thumper). Put it all together and it didn't seem right, like a small vacuum leak. I discovered that one of the end seals on the 3947801 intake had moved. Pulled the intake and found that one of the ears had broken off and dropped into the cam valley when the manifold was removed. That about killed me when I saw that bit of metal! The machine shop welded and honed the manifold and I wrapped it up today.
Driving along in 1st gear at 25 MPH and it spins the tires when I nail it! Success!
I don't need no stinkin' rollers! Flat tappets are good enough for me!
