Nope ...you are dead right ..SOL ....geeky private owned in huge collections ..most are rarely driven ....you MIGHT see one on the BlueRidge Parkway in the spring or fall ....if the weather is perfect.

The old ones ...hA ha they are never driven.....people own them and look at them....LOL

I'm from there , born nearby. Lived there after college for around 40 years and go back into the area every few months to see family

In the 70's we had a good ...fun wild club down towards Danville . Raced ...but the cars were all c1 -C3 of course. Cars YOUNG grease monkeys could afford , they were USED cars ....not collectable ....junkyards always had old Vettes and scraped them

I hung out at a now closed restoration shop . The guys only did old Vettes. They retired and left the area .

I quit messing with clubs in the 80's .....the one in Roanoke was awful , they met at some restaurant on Brambleton Ave for ever. Talk about lame .....I tHink they ate twinkles and listened to Donny Osmond 8 tracks....LOL

Anyway .....it was so boring I went twice and bailed .

There are some huge collections in the new river valley of very nice old corvette. Very private people with their own little museums of corvettes ....stuck back in them there hills

So ....no ....your not going to see any OLD corvettes....I used to drive my 65 Stringray everywhere ....I didn't give a fudge turd....it's mainly old blue hairs in C5 and c6 s ....never breaking 55 mph.....

Thanks LS4, that's to bad, I mean I'am 66 doing an off body restore of a 69 coupe by myself and I plan to drive the hell out of. I think the clubs ought to have more then meet and greets if they rely are vette lovers.

Default Reading is fundamental!

I'm 37 in a 2013 Grand Sport. I've put close to 12,000 miles on our Corvette since June of 2013. My thread was a post trying to get people who wanted to drive their Corvettes together to Drive their Corvettes not listen to people b!tch about other people sitting around not driving their Corvettes. If you want to get together and have fun driving your Corvette with us give us a shout or post in the thread. If not just pass on through.

There are guys like you there .
, just be tuff to locate. I drove my cars all the time. By the time I left , I never saw any old corvette out on the road. All the guys I know of live way way out in the surrounding counties . They are collectors , I never even seen them bring cars out to,local, shows. They ll be their nosing around , but not with their cars.....cars.

I actually think more people drive their cars here in NC . Maybe because it's warmer ...beats me ....I don't know.....LOL

I have a good friend whose brother , has a 69 427. Coupe in Roanoke. The car has been in storage since the mid 70's. Reason...he sawed the fenders off, because he d bought a conversion kit to build one of those wild body styles ...the one with the boat tail I think ....but he sawed the car up , got married and never finished the project. It's a low mile, car ....LOL ...
One of those ....I'm gonna fix it one day .....right ....he said that 1975 . Big collection in Galax .....if the guy is still alive .

There are tons of newer corvettes up there. But unless you frequent the blue ridge parkway ......on a sunny Sunday after noon you ll not see the oldies

I think it was a good question but for me I was just wondering if all the vette clubs were like that. I was looking for help and was curious if all the clubs were just meet and greets. Good Luck!

The comment wasn't directed at you. You had a valid question to which I don't have the answer. Mr LS4 obviously has all the answers and has already stereotyped every Corvette owner, but himself.

I think I did that once before and it looked like folks who were looking to drive around, and that's okay. I mean we did buy these cars to drive. I will check again.

Unfortunately Roger, I think you're going to run into the same issue as myself. You may find a group of Corvette owners that call themselves a club, and sure they may indeed get out for a Sunday cruise together; might even put on an event or two. But try finding any that want to turn a wrench, have access to a shop/lift or know more about the car they're driving than the name of the service manager. The newer cars are more prevalent and their owners can't, won't, or don't want to void a warranty by doing anything more than checking their oil. My local club's idea of a get together is coffee and pie every Tuesday night. The oldest car out of 23 is a 1989. They all have the jackets, glasses, hats, chairs, umbrellas.....heck maybe even underwear. When I asked them about joining and getting together to do a 2004r tranny swap in a C3 they looked at me like I was from Mars. This forum has enabled me to meet like-minded enthusiasts like myself, even if that meant I was travelling an hour and a half on a Saturday morning. Not necessarily a knock on these people, they're just at a different place in life than I am......so I pass.

Hey JS its nice to know that you are not that far away and if you are ever in Roanoke stop by. Working on a 69 off body restore. I know that being a mechanic the last thing you probably want to do is work on more cars, but like I said stop by anytime. Appreciate your offer.
