Hey guys my driver window is slow going up and doesn't quite have the power to go all the way up without a little help also it drops about 2-3 inches when I roll it down. The guy I bought the car from said it needed a new regulator has anybody rebuilt one or have any advice? Should I also buy a motor while I hav e it open? Thanks in advance
probably the spring is either weak, more probably broken. you can buy just the spring. a challenge to replace and rewind. if you treasure your pinkies, buy a new regulator. if the motor still runs, don't fix what ain't broke.
If your spring is NOT broken, the regulator will be under high spring tension!
Removing the motor will let her go - capture the arms before removing the motor.
So will I need to open the inner part of the door, under the interior door panel? I've had the interior panel off and couldn't really see the window mechanics

Yes, it will take an hour or 2 to get the regulator out. First you have to remove the window. Then collapse the regulator to the down position and pull it out of that tiny access hole.
Sounds hard, looks impossible - its not though.
People do it all the time.
Take your time, take pics if at all possible. Take care working in there - the access hole has sharp edges.
If you get all screwed up - we're here to help
Edit: Forget to mention - it's just as much fun putting it back in!

There's some plastic cover or something as I recall. Once removed you'll be able to see inside.
All right thanks fellas I will post pics and results here. The whole driver door situation needs attention. A little (maybe a lot of) adjusting to get it closing right, a pull and lock **** and get the window working right should add a bunch to the driving experience
OP, PM or email me, I can walk you through it, not all that hard, really, but then again I been working on cars for some 60 years now.... maybe that's why I krazy......
Seriously- the spring on the regulator, even an old worn out one, has the ability to snap the sharp edges on the arms together with enough force you'll need a trip to the ER- either for some stitches or to finish the amputation. Pay attention to the service manual about how to lock the arms.
I thought this was a helpful pic to better understand how the mechanism works. If you first understand how it works I think it is easier when you go to fix it. Hope it helps.

You may fine the regulator is OK but that the grease on the tracks has turned to tar and slows down the works.
There are many 'how to' but the vendors, here's one: http://www.corvettemagazine.com/tech...power-rebuild/
