Default I cannot manage to decrypt my engine code and numbers? Missing smthing? What's wrong?

Hello!
I have read online what I could about decrypting my engine numbers to know what kind of engine I have. I took all the numbers needed but it seems like my numbers doesn't match what they should look like.

I have been told my engine is a '68 327 vette engine...

At the front of the engine, passenger side, in front of valve cover I have 2 numbers:

781142902 (which, I believe, is the ''partial VIN'')
V0423HH (which, i believe, is the ''engine code'')

At the back of the engine, driver side near the transmision flange is:

3914678 (which, I believe, is the ''casting number'')

None of these number seems to get me to anything...
is there any good reference website I could use to know what engine I really have?

thansk a lot and have a nice day
g.b.

Hi! g. b.
I'm not an expert, but my black book says the number 3914678 is a 68"327 300hp or 350hp block, as for the other number the only thing I could find is the number that has the HH at the end shows to be listed in the 67" as a 300hp. with mt. Hope that helps.

Not a Corvette VIN derivitive. Are you certain the characters are correct?

...V0423HH (which, i believe, is the ''engine code'')...
Flint engine assemly plant (V) April 23. You'll have to use the casting date for the year.

HH indicates 65-67 Corvette use, but also a 69 350CID generic passenger car engine.

...transmision flange is: 3914678...
3914678 is correct for a 68 327CID but the block could have been used in other GM applications.

I agree with you: I'm not sure what you have.

Can you post a pic?

7S122902 would be from a 67.

That engine code and casting number combo preclude the engine from being from a '68 Corvette, but possibly it's from an earlier model. Post a clear picture of the pad, the VIN derivative is a little wonky.

Did you buy this engine used? All used engines came out of Corvettes you know.

Back in the 80's everything modded had a "vette" engine I even still see it a lot on CL seems there were far more vette engines made than vettes...

Didn't 50's have thicker balancers than 27's?

The casting date is D 4 8 which is April 4 1968. This matches well with the engine assembly date of April 23 (V0423HH). The single character in the casting date year and the square plug near the stamp pad match indicate a Flint cast block which matches with the V prefix on the stamp pad.

I'd guess that the engine is the '69 350 cu. in version mentioned above. The 3914678 casting is known to be used for 302, 327 and 350 cu. in engines.

The April '69 assembly date sounds unusually early for the '69 production year and weird VIN gives no further clues. Dunno.
