Default Temp. Gauge Not Working

So I change the sending unit, doesn't help. Then I changed the Gauge, doesn't help. What the hell.

are you sure it is the correct and working sending unit,
Some cars just had idiot lites which is a switch not a sender and in some cases they look alike, happened to a buddy of mine,
I just would find it odd that both a gauge and a sender are both bad....

To check the sending unit,

Get a meter set to ohms for a open or closed circuit or changing rating,
Sorry I dont recall the range of the temp gauge,
Hook one lead to the connector on the sender the other lead to it's body,
place it in a pan of water on the stove heating up,
If it's a switch at some point it will just close but if it's a sender it will have a range as the temp of the water gets hotter-cooler,

Should have mentioned it is a 69'. Could this be bad?

On mine there is a slight bend in the wire near where it connects to the sensor. The wire appears to have a crack as the connection comes and goes. You might want to check continuity of that wire.

I put the meter on a ohms scale on the resistor and got a reading of 86.4? Not sure what that means.

That was it, Thanks. Wire in connector not making good contact.
Thanks everyone for your help in narrowing it down.
