1975 air condition compressor
Do air compressors have date codes on them in 1975? How hard is it to rebuild one? Mine definitely has a bad bearing, very noisy. Also it don't kick on, maybe clutch is bad too.

THe front bearing is replaceable. THe clutch plate and hub have to come off. No real big deal. Not coming on could be as simple as the system being low.

Does a seal also go by the bearing? How does it come apart and should I replace the bearing and charge it and see what happens??? It's a 1975 with A6 compressor.

There are a bunch of videos on Youtube with the "how-to".. If I recall, (and it's been a very long time so no guarantees here), you can pull the front clutch plate and hub without disturbing the seal. The front seal rides on the snout on the front drive plate and is down in the cavity. There is a puller and installer for the hub and drive plate, and yet another one for the seal.
