Default Special graphite differential fluid

went cruising this weekend. Something felt like it started hanging in the rear end. Drained all the fluid. Pretty nice don't you think?

Carefully spread out all down I-20 in Arlington, I'm afraid. Must have just happened on the way home.

WOW......glad you made it home......Seal failure or a cracked housing or a failed gasket?

If you aren't a Corvette purist, you could drill/tap/plug the bottom of the housing with a 3/8" pipe tap in order to flush out all the bad stuff....then fill it with fresh oil.

Seal between the front main housing and part that the springs bolt to. Already pulled apart, inspected and replaced. I think I got pretty lucky. Gears didn't seem shredded and there wasn't really anything solid in the bottom. Cheeks will be puckered tomorrow on the way to work.

You're supposed to put fluid in there?! Doh!

That'd be a quick way to create a giant frag grenade. Haha.

It must have busted loose right as I was coming off the highway. I thought I smelled something funny as I exited.

I'd go with grease this time around.....just in case it turns loose while you are parking in the garage......
