Default Wood shift *****

I have a 76, it came with deluxe interior. Did they offer a wood 4spd. shift ****, or is it aftermarket? It is no big deal, just wondering.
Thanks
Larry

No factory installed wood shift *****. The 4 speed used a black chrome plated steel ball, and the automatic used a black plastic ball, with a chrome push button.

Wood ***** were strictly an aftermarket item, but may even have been available from Chevrolet as a parts department and/or dealer installed item.

Not seen a wooden one for 4 speeds but have for autos. A nice aftermarket detail.

Thanks guy's, I kind of thought that. It is a nice **** with a crossflag emblem embedded in the top. It is not my taste, that is why I will change it out. Is a black or chrome correct for 76?
Thanks again

The 4 speed used what they called black chrome, and it looks just like it sounds. It's a steel ball that's has a silver plated base coat, and a black top coat. With age, the black can wear off, leaving what looks like a tarnished chrome ball.

The 64-68 Corvette, used a regular silver chrome ball. If you prefer that look, the 64-68 ball has the same thread as the 69-81 ball, so it will screw right onto your stock 76 shifter.

I have a few of those same old wood shift ***** you described, laying around here somewhere.

Thanks, gb for the information, I think will pick a ball up this week at NCRS here in Lakeland . I'm sure there will be some. I know I can get them just about anywhere new.
Thanks again !
