Default Input on Value Please

Looking at a 1974 Vette, originally L48 model, motor has been changed to L82; factory 4 speed; no power steering; no power brakes; no tilt/tele; no electric windows; factory ac; southern California car, no rust, no accident history that is known of; appears to be mostly original paint. interior has been addressed with new carpet, new seals, seat covers still need to be changed. Factory bonding seams are showing through in locations.

Overall looks to be a nice project car.

I am looking for input on what you would pay for this vehicle in todays' market. I hope this questions is posted in the correct forum.

thank you for your input.

1974 Chevrolet Corvette. $8500 OBO. 1974 is the last year of the true dual exhaust cars and the last year that catalytic converters are not required. It has a 350cu motor with a 4 speed Borg Warner Super T10 manual transmission. It has T tops and is a fun car to drive. The car is in good shape and runs, shifts and drives excellent. The interior has been 90% restored (with the exception of the seats, they were dyed however and are worn with some tears that have been repaired). The door panels were upgraded to the deluxe from the standard panels. The body is straight and has not been repaired. The areas where the factory bonding strips are there is cracking. It appears the majority of the paint is original ....it is 40 years old so it has its share of chips, scratches etc. . .. The car is a L48 car but has been upgraded and badged as an L82. The engine/drivetrain is not stock but retains the stock appearance. It has a rebuilt stock distributor with an electronic ignition module installed. It also has an Edelbrock performer intake installed. The front nose (bumper cover) of the car is new flex fiberglass piece. The rear bumper cover is an original off (I believe) a 76 Corvette. It is in good shape with no tears but the paint needs attention (back cover only). Every gauge works on the car with the exception on the speedometer, it stopped working the last time I drove it and I have not had a chance to diagnosed/work on the problem. This is a factory A/C Car..it needs a compressor but the system was updated from the VIR system to the modern receiver/drier R134a system. It is set up for a Sanden style compressor... I have a clear AZ title in hand for this car...

New items on the car:

All new tires
Dash pad and dash mat
Carpeting
Gear shifter and shifter linkages
Gas tank
Permanent/washable air filter
Front brake calipers
Brake rotors and pads (brake lines as needed)
Heater control valve and heater hose
E brake cables
Alternator
Rebuilt distributor/ with tach gear drive
The interior clock (YES it works)
Under hood insulation
Rebuilt windshield wiper motor
New headlight switch
New door, pillar post and rear door window seals
Front Bumper cover
Glove box liner
Radio and speakers
Seat Belts (three point)
Power door locks with Key Fob
A/C hoses and Drier and compressor bracket (for a Sanden style compressor)******

***** The A/C system has been completely rebuilt. It was converted from the original VIR system to modern drier/receiver 134A system. The compressor had a leak so it does not have a compressor. The system was flushed and is sealed. (the compressor did not fail or come apart so the lines etc ...are clear)

Drivetrain Info:

3970010 Produced from 1969 to 1979

What makes you think the engine is an L-82? The valve covers are wrong.

Based on what I read, the seller does not say the engine is an L-82 (says L-48) and that the car has L-82 badges. TKY engines were not L-82s.

This car is not stock. The asking price is not unreasonable and the OBO gives you a little wiggle room. The only question here is whether you want this Corvette.

Good luck.

The price is not far off. Given that the paint and cosmetic repairs will cost another $8500 or so, do you still like the car?

The casting numbers on the heads do not mean it has the bigger valves. But it could. No way to tell with out taking them off.

Default Imho....

IMHO, nice driver at a decent price.

You can check completed ebay sales and completed Mechum auction results and see what you think. Sounds like a decent price with a variety of new fixed up stuff and still some typical things that still need to be fixed.

I would check compression, check for rust everywhere, particularly bird cage and frame and hopefully all is reasonably ok. Now if you decide to restore it, and particularly paint it ($5+), then you could get upside down in your purchase and could have bought a nicer one elsewhere.

If you want a FUN driver to drive and enjoy, this could be a good fit. Sounds like the rear bumper is needed. I would buy a tru flex bumper, and fit it myself (this forum will help you out) and either paint myself or find somebody to paint the rear bumper only. The original bumper did not exactly color match anyway, so you can likely get away with this. I would try to figure out how bad the cracks are in the bonding seams. If you could get a knowledgeable person to help you check it out (always a good idea anyway) and see if you could get away with a cheap fix, that would be good.

my 2 cents, hope this might help.

Thank you all for the input. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon how one views it, I have painted cars for a living and have built more than 2 dozen small block chevy motors over the years, plus a lot of other mechanical work on various vehicles; And with three kids in college, I have more time than money, so a "running" project car with no rust fits my needs and won't anger the wife too much; if it just sits for months while I work on it, well, she won't be happy. But I am looking for a recently painted, 4 speed manual, factory air '74 or '75 and at the right price, may head in that direction.

Thank you again for all the input.

Sounds like you are way ahead in knowledge compared to most of the buyers. And if you can paint, then you really are advantaged. Good luck in the hunt!

Gee ....if the frame is good and birdcage .......it looks to be in fair condition.

As you know . The money can just go down a sink hole really fast on cars that require the buyer to "bring " the car up to snuff.

It driving is your main goal here, then it appears to be a good start. It's Not a car I'd want to worry much about original parts . You can customize it yourself.

ST10 Warner is a sturdy unit . Probably ok.

Motors are coin flip , who knows inside the thing.

Four speed car is what you want . That's a good thing .

If you really like to run fast and push the car, then a nice NOM car like this would be your best bet. You can build what you want for HP not worry about the. 40 year old block getting a rod thrown through it,

You can add PS and Brakes .

I'm not crazy about the color , but if you like it then thats all that matters.

Going to drive to Arizona this weekend to take a look and a spin. We will see if it turns out to be the next project or not.

Finding a '74/'75, 4 speed, factory air, no rust, drivable project car, below $10,000 has not been easy for me. Maybe I'm not looking in "all the right places". I missed a '74 one owner in northern California this week, 350, 4 speed, power steering, brakes, power windows, air, numbers matching, silver exterior, black leather interior, tilt-tele, solid and glass T-tops, that sold for $9800. I just wasn't fast enough. I see lots of automatics, but I'm not really interested in an auto; could live with it, but not really what I want.

So I will be pondering the brown '74 for a few days before I decide. After looking at it today, I found it to be a great basic foundation to have fun with, nothing more, nothing less.

Thank you for all the input!

If you really want a 4 speed wait for a 4 speed, if not you will never be completely happy with the car.

Did not realize you were stuck on 74,75 models, agree with other response about waiting for 4 speed. I have found that cash in hand can work real good at a cruise night or local shows( not big $$$) ones, seems always see some mid year c3s for sale. I think it's a good time to buy, there are good value cars in this market now. Be patient you'll know it when you see it.

A number of people have converted automatics to manuals here. Of course it is easier if it already comes that way. If you do a conversion you aren't limited to a 4 speed.

A brown '74 coupe with NOM and needing paint and minimal options for $8500? I think its a little high.

The fact you can paint takes the equasion in the other direction, though. I'd still want it to be cheaper.
