Input on Value Please
Overall looks to be a nice project car.
I am looking for input on what you would pay for this vehicle in todays' market. I hope this questions is posted in the correct forum.
thank you for your input.
1974 Chevrolet Corvette. $8500 OBO. 1974 is the last year of the true dual exhaust cars and the last year that catalytic converters are not required. It has a 350cu motor with a 4 speed Borg Warner Super T10 manual transmission. It has T tops and is a fun car to drive. The car is in good shape and runs, shifts and drives excellent. The interior has been 90% restored (with the exception of the seats, they were dyed however and are worn with some tears that have been repaired). The door panels were upgraded to the deluxe from the standard panels. The body is straight and has not been repaired. The areas where the factory bonding strips are there is cracking. It appears the majority of the paint is original ....it is 40 years old so it has its share of chips, scratches etc. . .. The car is a L48 car but has been upgraded and badged as an L82. The engine/drivetrain is not stock but retains the stock appearance. It has a rebuilt stock distributor with an electronic ignition module installed. It also has an Edelbrock performer intake installed. The front nose (bumper cover) of the car is new flex fiberglass piece. The rear bumper cover is an original off (I believe) a 76 Corvette. It is in good shape with no tears but the paint needs attention (back cover only). Every gauge works on the car with the exception on the speedometer, it stopped working the last time I drove it and I have not had a chance to diagnosed/work on the problem. This is a factory A/C Car..it needs a compressor but the system was updated from the VIR system to the modern receiver/drier R134a system. It is set up for a Sanden style compressor... I have a clear AZ title in hand for this car...
New items on the car:
All new tires
Dash pad and dash mat
Carpeting
Gear shifter and shifter linkages
Gas tank
Permanent/washable air filter
Front brake calipers
Brake rotors and pads (brake lines as needed)
Heater control valve and heater hose
E brake cables
Alternator
Rebuilt distributor/ with tach gear drive
The interior clock (YES it works)
Under hood insulation
Rebuilt windshield wiper motor
New headlight switch
New door, pillar post and rear door window seals
Front Bumper cover
Glove box liner
Radio and speakers
Seat Belts (three point)
Power door locks with Key Fob
A/C hoses and Drier and compressor bracket (for a Sanden style compressor)******
***** The A/C system has been completely rebuilt. It was converted from the original VIR system to modern drier/receiver 134A system. The compressor had a leak so it does not have a compressor. The system was flushed and is sealed. (the compressor did not fail or come apart so the lines etc ...are clear)

This car is not stock. The asking price is not unreasonable and the OBO gives you a little wiggle room. The only question here is whether you want this Corvette.
Good luck.

You can check completed ebay sales and completed Mechum auction results and see what you think. Sounds like a decent price with a variety of new fixed up stuff and still some typical things that still need to be fixed.
I would check compression, check for rust everywhere, particularly bird cage and frame and hopefully all is reasonably ok. Now if you decide to restore it, and particularly paint it ($5+), then you could get upside down in your purchase and could have bought a nicer one elsewhere.
If you want a FUN driver to drive and enjoy, this could be a good fit. Sounds like the rear bumper is needed. I would buy a tru flex bumper, and fit it myself (this forum will help you out) and either paint myself or find somebody to paint the rear bumper only. The original bumper did not exactly color match anyway, so you can likely get away with this. I would try to figure out how bad the cracks are in the bonding seams. If you could get a knowledgeable person to help you check it out (always a good idea anyway) and see if you could get away with a cheap fix, that would be good.
my 2 cents, hope this might help.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Thank you again for all the input.
Thank you again for all the input.
As you know . The money can just go down a sink hole really fast on cars that require the buyer to "bring " the car up to snuff.
It driving is your main goal here, then it appears to be a good start. It's Not a car I'd want to worry much about original parts . You can customize it yourself.
ST10 Warner is a sturdy unit . Probably ok.
Motors are coin flip , who knows inside the thing.
Four speed car is what you want . That's a good thing .
If you really like to run fast and push the car, then a nice NOM car like this would be your best bet. You can build what you want for HP not worry about the. 40 year old block getting a rod thrown through it,
You can add PS and Brakes .
I'm not crazy about the color , but if you like it then thats all that matters.

So I will be pondering the brown '74 for a few days before I decide. After looking at it today, I found it to be a great basic foundation to have fun with, nothing more, nothing less.
Thank you for all the input!

The fact you can paint takes the equasion in the other direction, though. I'd still want it to be cheaper.
